Hi, I am Anna Mudeka, a Zimbabwean based in the UK for more than 10 years where I  have established myself as a well respected workshop leader and performer of music rooted in the African traditions.

My love for my music comes through my singing and the dancing is in my bones since I was a toddler watching Grandmother Mudeka perform. I was fortunate enough to have trained with Idwala Elikhulu dance troupe  from the age of 14 under King George Ziki Moyo, learning Shona, Kalanga and Ndebele dances. Although as a girl we were not encouraged to drum, my curiosity got the better of me and i learned to drum as well.

I met Ephat Mujuru in 1993 when i approched him at the ethernomusic college and asked if he could teach me to play the Mbira, he was suprised and fascinated in this 17 year old girl wanting to learn such a male dominated instrument. I spent the year learning and performing with Mr Mujuru including an amazing tour to Japan. Thomas Mapfumo the King of Chimurenga music soon heard about the Mudeka girls, Anna, Patience and Mutsa. We were nicknamed the singing daughters and i spent an amaizing 8 months working with him.

Since coming to the UK i set up my first band playing a fusion of Afro beats and teaching music and dance in schools and worked with Adzido dance troupe. I have since established Tambai Promotions and work with organisations such as WOMAD, MOD, Mental health organisations, Coporate events, Universities, Colleges, High and primary schools. Once a year i organise Southburgh festival to raise money for mostly aids orphans in my beloved Zimbabwe.

I love my work and feel blessed to have touched so many peoples lives through music. I am available for performance and workshops, Solo performance with Mbira, Drumming and dance with Tambai Ensemble, The Anna Mudeka Band. I have a large selection of African drums and instruments including costumes for workshops, so if you are looking for an energetic, colourful and high quality performance or workshop contact me and I will be happy to accomodate.
